[Red Bank, New Jersey] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Amid personal anguish and societal upheaval, Jeffrey Delano Davis, a prolific multidisciplinary artist, bares his soul in his latest cinematic creation, 'Digital Automatic Writing!'. This emotionally charged short film is a testament to Davis' resilience as he navigates a heart-wrenching diagnosis in his family and the harrowing reality of school shootings across the U.S.A. His search for solace and rediscovery is mirrored in the innovative practice of Digital Automatic Writing, a technique he pioneered.
“DAW writing, like good traditional writing, is about spontaneity. However, in DAW writing, that spontaneity can move between writing, drawing, animating, and sketching. I’ve written a blog post about how to do DAW writing; anyone can do it, and I imagine trauma victims or visual learners might gravitate to it.”
Mr. Davis first had the idea for Digital Automatic Writing while doing his daily writing: “I was tapping away on my computer, writing whatever came to my mind, when I had the thought, “Well, why don’t I write in Procreate?”, which is a drawing app. From there, it evolved; words segued into sketches, effects, and animation.”
The film recently debuted on the festival circuit, won an award from The Allentown Film Festival, and was featured at The Blackbird Film Festival in Cortland, New York.
"Digital Automatic Writing! is a fascinating collection of oddly therapeutic animated sketches and words that collide sporadically on screen,” said Sam Avery, Artistic Director of The Blackbird Film Festival. “Fast-paced and exciting, animator Jeffrey Delano Davis challenges viewers to interpret fragments of hybrid-digital-journaling and form their understanding of the content.”
Davis' poignant storytelling and captivating visuals invite viewers to become active participants in the narrative, reminding us of the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of artistic expression. “Your interpretation and engagement with the film are not just encouraged but integral to its meaning and impact,” he emphasized.
